Martin George - black and white photoMartin George received his LL.B. (Hons) from the Faculty of Law, University of Leicester, and his LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the School of Law, University of Nottingham. He is currently a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. Candidate at Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham.

His major research interests are in the fields of private international law and maritime law. His article on “Choice of Law in Maritime Torts” was published in the April 2007 issue of the Journal of Private International Law. He has taught on the LL.B. Land Law course at Birmingham for the last two years, and is currently teaching on the Equity & Trusts module.

Martin was a Consultant to the British Institute of International & Comparative Law in 2006 on a European Commission-funded comparative study concerning the application of the Brussels I Regulation in the Member States. He was also National Reporter for England on a feasibility study commissioned by the European Commission on the creation of a European research network in the fields of international private law, civil law and civil procedure, and has published an article on the current status of English private international law in that context - “The Present Situation of Private International Law in England” (2005) 6 European Legal Forum I-257, I-271.

He was a member of the Learning & Teaching Committee at Birmingham Law School during 2006-07, and is currently the PTA Representative on the Postgraduate Research Board, and Chair of the Postgraduate Representation Committee.

Martin is the creator and General Editor of CONFLICT OF LAWS .NET, a weblog devoted to news and views in private international law, updated by a team of international scholars representing key jurisdictions. He is also the Website Coordinator of the Journal of Private International Law.
